My first day in Buenas Aires

I woke, sunny side up (there were travel complications yesterday, but as I’ve shared recently, that is such a first world problem). Started out this morning with beautiful guide Florencia (her grandmother is from Italy) and we walked and rode through much of the good and some very bad parts of the city (we drove thru those bad parts which she called shanty towns and we did NOT stop and take pictures).

I’m staying in Recoleta, a very prosperous part of the city. A few blocks away is the Recoleta cemetery, where EVERYBODY rich and famous since the early 1800’s is buried, including Eva Peron (but mostly many generals and doctors). These crypts are Huge – most of the pictures are just because I was impressed with the crypts, but the “Duarte” is Evita’s family crypt.

We then went to the national cathedral where Pope Francis used to deliver his sermons, and then by the Casa Rosa, Argentina’s White House, where in the movie Evita, she came out on the balcony and waved to the adoring crowd.

As you can see, it was a terrifically beautiful day – one of our strolls was through a principal park with more than 10,000 roses, and gigantic old magnolia trees.

On to La Boca (named because the nearby port looked like a mouth), which is muy colorful and bohemian and full of tango.

I was then dropped off for me to lunch in the area of Puerto Madera and after a walk along the river, I took a taxi back to the hotel. Tonight, TANGO!
