After my very early morning trip back to the chaos at Heathrow and standing for a couple of hours in numerous snaking lines, I finally was told that getting to Budapest – with my bags – in the waning days of May was a reality that had no likelihood of coming true. I came back to London and was allowed to check in early at the hotel, and did walk around near the hotel in sunshine.

Later, after more excessive time spent on logistics (still checking on my 2 missing bags and how to eventually leave London), I took an iconic black taxi to Selfridges to buy a change of clothes and shoes and attitude and while not entirely successful but having given my credit card a good workout, I went out with the idea of strolling. But the rain started and then came down so plentiful that even the Londoners were huddling under eaves. But luckily a street vendor was glad to sell me a cheap umbrella for a lot, I found another taxi after about a mile, and I finished the day with wine and pasta.
